We believe in data minimization: we only collect the minimum information required to deliver precise expense splitting, budget calculations, and group debt simplification.

To facilitate smooth group bill splitting and settlement tracking, we collect the following categories of information:

• Account & Identity Data: Your name, email address, and profile photo when you sign up using Google Authentication or Email login.
• Expense & Group Metadata: Group names, member lists, expense amounts, currencies, categories, date timestamps, and split proportions.
• Device & Local Storage Data: Receipt images, camera snapshots, and cached group ledgers stored locally on your device for instant offline availability.
• Technical & Diagnostic Data: IP addresses, operating system version, app crashes, and basic usage diagnostics for app performance optimization.

3. How We Use Your Data

We process your data strictly to provide and enhance SplitPilot's core features:

• Calculating individual balances, equal/exact/percentage/share allocations, and running the Greedy Debt Simplification engine.
• Synchronizing group expenses seamlessly across all group members via Firebase Firestore Cloud Services.
• Tracking monthly category budget limits and sending real-time settlement notifications.
• Verifying group invite links and 1-Click Direct Join parameters.
• Diagnosing bugs and maintaining application performance and security.

4. Local Receipt Storage & Privacy

Unlike traditional cloud platforms that upload full-resolution receipt images to public servers, SplitPilot utilizes your local device storage for image caching and receipt attachment previews whenever possible.

Any attachment data synced across group members is transmitted via encrypted HTTPS TLS 1.3 streams and stored within secure Google Cloud / Firebase Storage buckets accessible solely by verified group members.

5. Third-Party Services & Cloud Infrastructure

SplitPilot relies on trusted, industry-leading cloud infrastructure providers to run our backend services:

• Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Storage): Provides real-time database synchronization and secure user authentication.
• Analytics & Crash reporting: Firebase Crashlytics to detect software exceptions silently without collecting individual banking information.

We do not integrate with third-party advertising SDKs or data brokers.

6. Data Retention & User Rights

You have full control over your personal data at all times. Subject to applicable laws, your rights include:

• Access & Export: View all your groups, expense entries, and settlements directly inside the app.
• Rectification: Edit or correct any expense entries or member names.
• Deletion: You can delete any expense group or request full account and data removal by tapping "Delete Account" in settings or contacting our support team.
